Last Friday sept. 15th Penns Valley traveled to Phillipsburg Osceola in its 43-32 come-from-behind win over the Mounties. “It was a hard-fought contest. We are very fortunate to come out on top,” Rams coach Martin Tobias said. Penns Valley came out of this game victorious but it was not easy.
In the first quarter, Penns Valley fell behind Fast. This was due to a pooch kick by Phillipsburg recovered by number 14. Penns Valley then responded by putting an 80-yard drive together finished by a 13-yard touchdown reception By number twenty John Meyer. Tied at 7 phillopsburg answered with another two touchdowns, extending the lead to 21-7. Pennsvalley answered with an 88-yard kick return by wide receiver John Meyer. This tightened the score to only 7 points going into the half. In the first play in the second half quarterback Jackson Romig connected with wide receiver John Meyer again on a wheel route for a 50-yard touchdown. The extra point was missed by running back Ty Watson, this narrows the lead to one. Penns Valley then forced Phillipsburg to punt on the following drive. After both teams traded field goals, Phillipsburg was in the lead with 6 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.
The real action started when both teams started to trade serious points late in the fourth quarter.
A low snap past Romig saw him retreating away from the end zone. He picked the ball up and ran to his right. He lofted the ball in the front corner of the end zone, where Kerstetter made a leaping grab for the game-winning score. This was then followed up by a pick-six by linebacker Jarrett Stover to seal the game. “We never stopped grinding,” Watson said.
Penns Valley gains a win and is now 3-1. They will take on Bellefonte for their Homecoming game this Friday.
