The Snappy’s in Centre Hall PA closed on September 26th after almost 25 years of business. Although it was commonly overlooked by Sheetz across the street, many people in Penns Valley enjoyed the significantly lower prices and the in-store subway. Although the specific reason for closing is not stated, the lack of business caused by the Sheetz across the street is the most probable explanation.
According to the Centre Daily Times, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of Snappy’s in Centre Hall due to circumstances beyond our control. For over a quarter of a century, it has been our honor and pleasure to serve this wonderful community. The bonds and memories we have built are irreplaceable,” reads the statement, which was signed by Keith Powell. In the statement, Powell said their commitment to the Penns Valley community “remains steadfast,” and they’ll continue supporting the area through their partner company, JJ Powell. “From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your patronage, trust, and loyalty. We hope to see you in our other locations throughout the area,” the statement reads. Other Centre County Snappy’s locations include State College, Milesburg, and Phillipsburg.
The speculation of what will go in place of the Snappy’s has been varied. Multiple rumors have emerged but one is yet to be confirmed. The possibility of a new gas station has been mentioned such as a Wawa or a Rutter’s. Some people do not like the idea of replacing a gas station with another since the Sheetz across the street is already a good use of a gas station. However, other people say that Snappy’s will be replaced by a fast food restaurant like Burger King. Finally, the rumor of an apartment building going in place of the gas station has emerged.
Snappy’s has done a lot for the Penns Valley community in recent years and although it will be gone, it will not be forgotten.
