What was Snappy’s?
Snappy’s was a convenience store/gas station in Center Hall, PA. Opening in 1993, snappys has been serving this county for well over 25 years. in September it was announced that Snappy’s would be closing on September 26th. The owner of Snappy’s states “For over a quarter of a century, it has been our honor and pleasure to serve this wonderful community. The bonds and memories we have built together are irreplaceable.” Many people predicted the closure of Snappy’s ever since the Altoona-based company Sheetz was built right across the road, creating competition between the two gas stations. With the more widely known Sheetz across the road, it drew many more people in than Snappy’s. With the declining customer base, it was only a matter of time before the store shut its doors.
The Future of the Location
As of the beginning of October, deconstruction of the gas station was underway, by first removing the gas tank from out under the parking lot. Many people are speculating about what is going to happen with the land considering there is a little league baseball field out behind the store as well as an Amish-owned shed company right next to the parking lot. Word around the valley has been all over the place. Many stories state that a new fast food place is going to go in the former location. People believe a food chain such as KFC or Burger King is going to occupy the land. Another story says that they are going to level the gas station, Little League field, and the stone parking lot next to the gas station to bring low-income housing to Center Hall. There has been no news confirming either story true or not, but whether any of these are correct or not the community is looking very intently at the area to see what is going to take the location of this Iconic Penns Valley location.
