Penns Valley Boys soccer is approaching its first district’s macth on Monday. They are going in as the first seed and will be playing in the semifinals. Yesterday, Penn Cambria and Juniata, the 4th and 5th seeds played to secure their spot in the semifinals. Penn Cambria got the upset and will now play PV on Monday at Bald Eagle High School. If Penns Valley wins on Monday they will secure their spot in the finals and get a chance to win the district championship.
Thus far, PV has played exceptionally well, only giving up losses to 3A and 4A schools. Their record is 13-4-1.
Boys soccer in District 6 has been extremely competitive for many years. PV boys soccer teams in recent years have been very good with high winning records but have not been able to take away a D6 championship since 2009. The head coach Brian Markle was a part of the team in 2009 and is eager to win another championship.
He says, “I am very eager to win another championship. That is not the focus at the moment though, our team has a one-game mentality which is why we have been successful thus far. Our first task is Penn Cambria and that is all we are thinking about.”
The team has been focused all year up to this point. The seniors; Nick Gillespie, Heath Senator, Andrew Pickering, Lucas Shawley, Henry Mayer, Thomas Dubbs, Ethan Narber, and Keyton Gurner are especially locked in on training and preparing for match day.
The whole team is ready to go and excited to try and make a mark on PV sports history. Only one question remains; will they be able to break the curse and take the D6 championship for the first time since 2009?
