In this article, we will be talking about how the 2023 Penns Valley Volleyball season from the coaches perspective and some players perspectives.
So, let’s start with Coach Baldwin. I asked Coach Baldwin how he thought the season went and this was his answer, “Overall, I believe the season is going very well! I am extremely happy with the direction in which the whole program is headed. Coach Skylar, Coach Merrill, and Coach Eckley were fantastic additions to the junior high program. Coach Ishler and Coach Kim have continued to effectively develop each player at the junior varsity level and I’m so proud of the way that the team performed this season! At the varsity level, we ended the regular season with a 12-6 record and made it into the District 6 Playoffs as the ninth seed. We had a very tough varsity schedule, but I am so proud of the hard work that the players and coaches put in this year. I am excited to see how deep this team goes in the District 6 Tournament!” I want to thank Coach Baldwin again for his words. He is also an amazing coach, very supportive and encouraging. You have made the team amazing and will continue to do so for years to come.
Now some words from our players. Let’s start with some words from senior Maddie Butler. I asked her how she thought the season went and here is what she said, “This volleyball season has been pretty tough with many ups and downs, but quite successful and enjoyable! Our record is currently 12-6 and we are now headed to the district playoffs. This year our team consisted of many seniors and we have all been playing together for multiple years now, so we had a great bond that allowed us to connect extremely well on and off the court. Overall, the season has been very enjoyable and I’m excited to see the outcome of districts!”
Last but not least, some words from one of the managers, Lexi Long. “We had a great volleyball season! Both JV and Varsity did well. Varsity made it to the quarterfinals of districts, ending with a record of 13-7. We also made it to the semi-finals in both of our tournaments. Both Ella Hadley and Maddie Butler broke school records. Maddie surpassed 1,000 career digs, and Ella hit 500 career digs. Ella also set a new record of 789 career kills, breaking our school record. All the girls worked so hard this season, showing resilience and growth! We had a lot of fun, and we had an awesome group of seniors. We’re so thankful to coaches, families, and fans for supporting us!” Once again thank you to everyone for their words.
In the end, the volleyball team did very well this year. And congrats to the coaches once again for having an amazing season and a well-formed team! Best of luck in future years!
