On the evening of December 15th, 2023 the Penns Valley Wrestling team traveled to Mount Aloysius College in Cambria County, Pennsylvania to take on many rivaling schools in the Panther Holiday Classic, a tournament Penns Valley competes in each year. Multiple wrestlers from Penns Valley participated in this event. During the tournament, Ty Watson reached an accomplishment in his wrestling career that he will never forget.
He wrestled multiple opponents throughout the tournament, but his fourth match on day one was the one that counted the most. As he approached the mat, there was a possibility that he would gain his 100th career win in his high school career at Penns Valley. He went out there and about a minute into the match, he beat his opponent reaching the goal he had set at the very beginning of his wrestling journey. Watson exclaims, “Growing up I always loved watching the high school wrestlers reach exciting accomplishments, so it’s very rewarding that I now have the opportunity to do so.” Later on, he adds, “Getting 100 wins has been a goal of mine since ninth grade, and finally reaching it feels great.”
Watson has been wrestling ever since he was four years old, meaning he has been participating in the sport for about 14 years now. He began his career with club wrestling, made his way to elementary, junior high, and he is now a part of the varsity wrestling team at Penns Valley Area High School. He has also been a part of M2, a wrestling club located in Pleasant Gap. Adding on, he has spent countless hours doing this sport that he loves which has led him to pursue his wrestling career in college at Penn State University.
