Penns Valley vs. Bellefonte
Previously, the Bellefonte Boys Soccer team traveled to Penns Valley last year and tied 0-0. Ties seem to be a common theme between these two schools, as in recent history, they have tied the majority of their games played together. They faced off this past Tuesday, September 17th, and the outcome was nothing short of unexpected.
Team Size
Bellefonte is a massive AAA soccer school compared to Penns Valley’s AA team. Bellefonte has 49 players rostered on their team across both their Varsity and Junior Varsity squads, while Penns Valley is sitting just under 30 players in total.
Bellefonte Kicks-Off
Both teams started off hot, with Bellefonte maintaining much of the possession in the first half. It was a physical match all the way through, and in the 35th minute, John Servant (#6), was able to find a way to the back of the net with the ball deflecting off one of Penns Valley’s centerbacks. With Penns Valley down 0-1 at the end of the first half, it seemed that all was lost. With much to make up for, Penns Valley kicks off the second half hard. It’s now a dog fight on Bellefonte’s home turf. Penns Valley’s determination eventually pays off, as defender Collin Fohringer (#5) scores an equalizer off of Penns Valley’s corner kick late into the second half.
Results
With newfound confidence, Penns Valley stays in the match through both overtimes, with the end result being a tie (1-1). One of the Center Midfielders, Max King states, “It was a dogfight from the start, and after Bellefonte scored the first goal of the game, the team morale did not diminish”. This will be the first and only time Penns Valley and Bellefonte play against each other in the LHAC season. The rivalry will continue between the two teams as they continue playing each other in the upcoming years.
