This coming Wednesday, October 30th, the members of Penns Valley’s band, chorus, and theater will take the school day off and visit Broadway to view a performance of the famed musical Wicked, a theatrical spin-off of The Wizard of Oz.
“We are looking forward to this wonderful opportunity and cannot wait to share this experience,” says Marcia McCole, Penns Valley’s choir teacher and one of the orchestrators of this event. The band, choir, and theater members were given permission slips for their teachers, parents, and principal/vice principal to sign, and most of these members who desired to depart to Manhattan turned them in to join the field trip.
The teachers, chaperones, and students will depart the school at 7:30 AM and anticipate to return around 11:00 PM. On the way to the Gershwin Theatre of Manhattan, they will stop for lunch at Rockaway Mall in New Jersey. When they arrive in Manhattan around 1:00 PM, they will have an hour to look around until the matinee show begins at 2:00 PM. After 5:00 PM, when the matinee ends, they will divide into chaperoned groups and roam for two hours to see what Manhattan offers and get themselves dinner. Finally, after the whole day has been spent traveling from Pennsylvania to New York, stopping in New Jersey for lunch, arriving and seeing the matinee performance of Wicked, and perusing the streets of Manhattan after the performance, the band group will head back to Penns Valley, expecting to arrive sometime around 11:00 PM.
