It is October, and children are starting to get excited about dressing up and going trick-or-treating in Penns Valley. Trick-or-treating takes place throughout Penns Valley from 6-8 p.m. on October 31st. However, some residents of Penns Valley are worried.
Last year during Halloween, there were multiple reports in Pennsylvania of dangerous Halloween candy that had been tampered with. A 12-year-old boy in Scottsdale, Pennslyvania reported finding a razor blade in a fun-sized bag of M&M’s that he received while trick-or-treating. The police reported that they could not find which house the candy came from, and it appeared as though the blade came from the manufacturer. Nonetheless, it was a serious safety hazard. Another report came from Indiana, Pennsylvania when a 16-year-old girl found another razor blade in her candy and sustained multiple cuts in her mouth. The razor blade was found in a piece of bubble gum, which the girl got at a community event where twenty-two people were scheduled to hand out Halloween candy from their vehicles.
Also at this time, multiple needle-like objects were found in Halloween candy from Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Though there have been no known instances of candy being tampered with in Penns Valley, parents are discussing whether it is safe to send their kids trick-or-treating. Police from other counties in Pennsylvania recommend checking Halloween candy for changes like tiny pinholes or tears in the wrappers, changes in smell, taste, or texture, and any obvious alterations like other objects inside.
