This past week, the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams played in district games. The boys started their playoff run on Tuesday, February 18th, against Marion Center. The Rams were placed 8th in the district and The Marion Center Stingers were ranked 9th in the district.
It was a close game throughout the first three quarters, with only a few baskets separating the teams. In the last quarter, the Rams gained momentum and continued their strong defense in order to pull out the win against Marion Center. The game ended with the score of Rams 63 to the Stingers 54. This win moved the Rams further in the district playoffs. Their next game was on Friday, February 21st, against Forest Hills.
Forest Hills was ranked number one in the district so the Penns Valley Rams expected a hard game. The Rams lost 74-36, but they were able to put some points on the board and give their best effort during their second district game. Sadly, the outcome of the boys’ second district game was different. The Lady Rams district game was on Wednesday, February 19th, against Richland.

The score was close throughout the game. Both teams, The Penns Valley Rams and the Richland Rams, battled back and forth to get ahead. The Penns Valley Rams led by ten at halftime and needed to keep their lead in the second half. Mr. Green said before the game, “We put in a lot of defensive work and a lot of hard work…” Their defensive practice paid off as they continuously shut down the Richland defense.
The PV Rams played Richland earlier in the season and lost by seven points. The PV Rams were hoping to pull out a win and the game came down to the refs. With 3.4 seconds left, the score was 47-49, there was a clock error and it did not start. Penns Valley in-bounded the ball and began dribbling the court, a ref blew their whistle but the clock had already started and ran out. The refs got with the coaches and decided the game was over. The PV Lady Rams district run was over as the final score was 49-47 Richland.
While both teams’ district runs were short, the student section was lively and supportive for both the girls and the boys games. I wish both teams the best of luck next year!
