On March 12 and 13, the States Swimming Championships were held at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Over these two days, swimmers from AA schools across the state competed for the podium, and our Penns Valley team proved its worth once again. It was an extraordinary season, full of excitement and outstanding performances that saw our athletes not only compete, but also achieve significant goals in the history of scholastic swimming.
Among the stars of this year’s States, Liam Quigley was undoubtedly one of the most celebrated. His results in the
100-yard breaststroke, where he took third place, and the 200-yard IM, where he took fourth place, were extraordinary achievements. Not only did he achieve impressive times, but he also demonstrated leadership that inspired the entire team. A big round of applause goes to him for bringing home these incredible placings and for representing the team impeccably.
Mila Klena had an equally brilliant season. Her performance was an example of continuous growth and improvement. She reached the consultation finals in both of her events: the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke. Not only did she compete at a very high level, but she also improved her personal bests in both events, proving how her hard work and dedication paid off.
Charlotte Delaney, another outstanding athlete, achieved extraordinary things, setting personal bests in the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle. These improvements are the result of hours of training and determination. Each race was a test of strength and endurance, and Charlotte responded with great energy and focus. We are proud
of her and excited to see what she can accomplish next year during her senior year.
But it wasn’t just the individual athletes that shone this year. The 200-yard medley relay reached a historic milestone, qualifying for states after five years since the last time. This was a major success, not only for the athletes who participated, but for the entire team. Eleanor Gillan, Mila Klena, Charlotte Delaney and Abby Hagelgans swam together with great energy and determination, and their qualification for States was a victory that made all of Penns Valley proud.
After these two fantastic days, the swimming season ends in the best possible way, proud of the results obtained and of all the commitment and determination that each athlete has put in during this fantastic season.
