The Penns Valley Lady Rams volleyball team held its Awareness Night on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, against the Tyrone Golden Eagles. The awareness night was for Chasing Greatness, and the organization is for deaf or hard-of-hearing athletes. The seniors chose this organization because one senior, Madison Bowen, has a little sister who has hearing loss and wears hearing aids.
The game had a great turnout, and there was a lot of support. People donated baked goods, gift baskets, and balloons. There was also a 50/50 raffle and bracelets for sale. The game also consisted of a silent set.
At the start of the varsity game, the first seven points were completely silent. Only the players on the court were allowed to talk. The crowd and the benches could only use sign language to clap and cheer. On the seventh point, when Penns Valley scored, the crowd gave its loudest cheer.
Penns Valley won the first set but fell behind for the next two. In the fourth set, they fought back but ended up losing 25-22. Falling to a record of 9-8.
A quote taken from Madison’s speech is “My family and I appreciate the love and support that people have shown towards my sister. No one treats her any differently.” This was said in the speech Madison gave to the crowd before the varsity game.
The next game for the team is Thursday, October 9, 2025, against Bishop Guilfoyle. This game is senior night, so a crowd is expected.
