With the 2025 football season now complete, I interviewed one of the participants of Penns Valley football about the season:
Christian Merrill is a junior here at Penns Valley and participates in football, wrestling, and the yearbook club, among other things.
Q: What was the team’s record?
A: 2-8
Q: What was your role?
A: A linebacker and tight end.
Linebacker is a secondary defense position. Tight end is an offensive role that doubles as a blocker or receiver.
Q: What were your thoughts on the team’s offense?
A: Started slow and shaky, but progressed significantly throughout the season.
Q: What were your thoughts on the team’s defense?
A: More of the same. Solid from the start, got better, played more as a team.
Q: What were your thoughts on the overall team’s performance?
A: The record doesn’t show it, but every game we played with passion and energy, and competed in every game.
Q: Did you feel more satisfied with the performance this year?
A: Yes, absolutely. Unlike last season, we competed in every game we played this season.
Q: Why do you think the team did better this year?
A: We had more energy for practice. We also had a better general focus.
Q: How do you feel about next season?
A: I feel really good. With the way we played this season, it looks promising for next season.
Q: If given the choice, would you rather play offense or defense?
A: Defense. I enjoy defense a lot more than offense
Q: Now that the season is over, how are you preparing for next season?
A: I will be hitting the gym and staying in shape.
That is Christian’s account of the 2025 Penns Valley football season. Although there were certainly rough patches throughout, the promise and potential shown this season are without a doubt something to look forward to next season.
