A Christmas Tradition

Nikki Denger

Every year when the temperatures drop and the Christmas trees go up many holiday festivities come to town. One fun event that occurred not too far from us was Chriskindl in Mifflinburg, PA. Christkindl occurs on a weekend in December every year and people travel from all over to enjoy the delicious food and uplifting atmosphere. Two streets of Mifflinburg are shut down to set up and coordinate the street festivities.

This event will put you right in the Christmas spirit by stopping at the pickle, funnel cake, or fry stand.  A fan favorite is the strudel stand that includes apple, cheese, and many more flavors that will keep you wanting more. Not only are there delicious food stands to put you in the Christmas spirit and satisfy your hunger, but there are stands to enjoy like a bell stand so Rudolph knows exactly which house to go to.

There are many options for your kids to enjoy as well. Your kids will love the craft stands that are provided to the community for this lovely weekend. Some examples of a craft stand they could enjoy are Brenda’s Crafts, which is a craft that involves paper-cut designs, and Linda Nigh Crafts. Not only could you and your family enjoy the crafts that are provided but you can browse the homemade jam, goat milk soap, and the puppet stands. You could even pick up a last minute Christmas gift for anyone in your family by purchasing a wooden puzzle. Now all of this is a great family event and perfect to get in the Christmas spirit, but your whole family would be excited to hear that there is up close and personal petting zoo, that includes donkeys.  So, make sure you make this a tradition with your family next year.
