Where Did Halloween Come From?

Every year Halloween is celebrated on October 31st. Halloween is a holiday that has been celebrated for around 2,000 years. When people think of Halloween they think of candy and dressing up like their favorite superhero. Nobody ever stops and thinks about the history of Halloween and how it came to be. It has a very historic background that a lot of people don’t know about. Halloween originally started by having bonfires and dressing up in costumes to keep ghosts away. It then turned into All Saints Day celebrating all of the saints. The evening before was called All Hallows Eve which later turned into Halloween. As this went on, Halloween became a day for activities like trick-or-treating, games, family gatherings, making costumes, and carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. Trick-or-treating originated from the ancient Celts, early Roman Catholics, and 17th-century British politics. It began with people dressing up in costumes and heading out in the neighborhood ringing on neighbors’ doors and demanding candy. It then became an American tradition when they heard about this. People dress up for Halloween because people back then believed that demons and supernatural beings, roamed the earth and were trying to scare them off. Although Halloween might not be everyone’s favorite holiday, people still enjoy going out on the town to get some treats. Everyone also enjoys a good trick every once in a while. It helps to spice up the holiday because you don’t know if you’re going to get a trick or a treat!!
