On October 21, 2022, at midnight, Taylor Swift released her latest album, Midnights. That same day at 3 AM, she released Midnights (3am edition) with 7 bonus tracks. So far she has released two music videos for “Anti-Hero.” Swift has occupied the top ten spots on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first artist ever to do this. Midnights is also already the top-selling album for 2022.
Many people, including students of Penns Valley, were very excited about this latest release, with known Swiftie, Evelyn Powell, saying, “I think it is a phenomenal album. Initially, it got a lot of backlash because people were expecting it to be like Folklore and Evermore, but it wasn’t going to be that because they were storytelling albums, and from the beginning, she marketed it as stories from her actual life, so obviously, people weren’t going to be happy, but just knowing you enjoy her as an artist and her music, you can kind of enjoy it from an objective perspective. Like “Mastermind,” “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” “Labyrinth,” “Snow on the Beach,” “You’re On Your Own Kid,” “The Great War, “Bejeweled,” “Karma.” They’re all so good. It’s a no-skip album, except for “Sweet Nothings” sometimes.”
On November 1, Taylor Swift officially announced a tour with 26 shows in 20 cities, including two in Philadelphia and one in Pittsburgh. Several openers include Paramore, Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, Beabadoobee, Girl in Red, Muna, Gayle, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN. Hopefully, any Penns Valley Swifties who want to go can get tickets.
