Penns Valley is not yet Ready for Cyber Snow Days

Penns valley as well as Bald Eagle and Bellefonte school district are not yet ready to partake in cyber snow days. But what are cyber snow days? Its a new law passed in Pennsylvania that will give schools the opportunity to hold classes at home during bad weather. Sounds great right? Easier said than done, not everyone is ready for for something like this. Your thinking its the students that are not ready to lose their days off, but its actually the teachers and staff who are not ready to partake in it. Sherri Connell from Penns Valley Area School district stated- “At this time, there are too many unknowns that we would need to work through, and I don’t know at this point that some of those hurdles are able to be met,”. One of those hurdles are internet access, not every student has access to speedy internet. Other issues include a platform to administer the work and track attendance of the students. But one of the other problem include the schools motto- “empowering our students every day to reach individual success,” Sherri Connell said that that the most important words are “every day”. With the new program there is no guarantee of  getting a hard day of education. Bellefonte Area school district said this- “These challenges cannot be addressed with a simple packet or one-size-fits-all online application,” Saylor said. “Is it something we continue to explore? Absolutely. But it is much more complicated than just having the legislation to support it. The legislation is a critical step, but it is far from the solution.” These are just a few challenges that will need to be figured out to achieve something like cyber snow days. It is unknown when these issues can be resolved, until that time comes these schools will get to enjoy their days off.
