The day of LOVE

The day of LOVE

Valentine’s day is originally from the Roman Festival. It’s held in mid-february on the 14th. It has changed in many ways over the years. In the United States many people send love letters, flowers, chocolates, or go on dates with their significant other. The holiday has also shaped friendship, self love, and pet celebration. Valentines is a day you get to pick who you want to celebrate it with.

In the school of Penns Valley I went around and asked a few students what their thoughts were on Valentine’s day and if they celebrated it. First student from Penns Valley is Rebekah Gillespie, “ Valentine’s day is a holiday that many celebrate, personally I do celebrate it sort of. I am not sure what my plans are this year, exactly but we will see”. Next person is Skylar Fleshman, “ I think valentine’s day is an overrated holiday because I think that if you have a significant other you should celebrate each other everyday and not just one day out of the year. Currently I do not celebrate valentines day but probably will when I have a boyfriend.”

Here are some more thoughts on the loving holiday. Mr.Farley said. “ I think that it is a holiday for companies to profit from. I feel true love cannot be confined to the middle of February. I find the holiday predatory, harmful, and misguided… but I do celebrate.” Mason Greene also had a comment on this holiday, “I think it’s a good holiday and it depends if I celebrate because if I have a woman or not”.

As we can see Valentine’s day is a holiday not everyone celebrates or enjoys. Some do however participate in it and take joy in the meaning of the holiday. If you are a person who likes to celebrate Valentine’s day, hope you get lots of chocolate, flowers, and love. If you are not a person to care for this holiday I hope your day goes just as well as anyone else.
