The Penns Valley Lady Rams had quite a successful season that happened to come to an end on October 31st around 8:30 P.M. at the Phillipsburg Oceola Area High School. The Lady Rams traveled to Phillipsburg to play the Mounties in the district championship quarterfinals on Tuesday. After they arrived, game time eventually came around and they found it was time to begin. The referee blew the whistle and the first serve was sent over. Proceeding through the first set, the Lady Rams crumbled and the Mounties grew a hefty lead. The first set ended up being 11-25. The Lady Rams knew they had a lot to clean up as they began the second set.
As they stepped back on the court, discouraged from the loss of the first, not much changed. They fought hard, but still just couldn’t seem to pull through. The score ended up being 12-25 without much improvement. As a result of this, PV decided they needed a change. They ended up switching up their lineup to try out something different, which would hopefully bring bits of hope. As the third set began, it was not looking good. The Lady Rams were having a tough time starting off. The Mounties took the lead in the first couple of minutes with the score being 7-1. They proceeded through the match and the Lady Rams began to fight back bringing the score to be tied at 14-14. As the set went on, the Lady Rams gave the Mounties a run for their money, but the Mounties still ended up on top with the final set score being 20-25. With the end of the match came the end of the season for the Lady Rams.
This was not the first time the Lady Rams were defeated by the undefeated Mounties. Penns Valleys outside hitter Ella Hadley, a senior on the team remarks, “It was a tough loss, but we fought hard. I am quite sad to see the season come to an end, but excited to see what is in store for the upcoming Lady Rams!” They previously played the Mounties twice this season and lost both matches. The Mounties were seeded one in the district so the loss didn’t bring much surprise. Although this happened to be true, the Lady Rams were still upset as this was their last match for the 2023 volleyball season.
