Schoolwide Tempeture

Schoolwide Tempeture

Approximately a week ago I scheduled a meeting with Mr. Wynkoop about the school-wide temperature being too cold. I have asked multiple people how they feel about the overall temperature of the school and they all agreed with me. Especially girls… girls who participate in sports have to dress up for away games, mainly in dresses and skirts. Therefore they are freezing all day without being able to cover up. This is a serious issue, studies even show when the temperature is excessively cold it affects the students learning ability.

Yesterday I finally had my meeting, not with Mr. Wynkoop but with Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller runs our school-wide biomass that controls our heating system using renewable products that don’t harm the environment. I addressed my problem with the school being way too cold in my opinion and others. Mr. Miller showed me how he controls and maintains the school’s temperature with a geothermal map on his computer. I found it very fascinating and he respected my side of the argument. He also told me the reason why our school is a lot colder than usual, it is called a shoulder month. This means that because we are turning from summer to fall and from fall to winter, the temperature is constantly changing making it hard to find the perfect medium temperature for the school.

By the end of the meeting, we shook hands and he said he would try and move the temperature up a few degrees. I found the meeting very educational and interesting. Hopefully, in the next upcoming weeks, there will be a slight temperature change making our school environment more comfortable for learning.
