LeBron James Has Finally Done It

LeBron James Has Finally Done It

The King can put on his crown. LeBron James on February 7th, 2023 breaks Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s all time scoring record by scoring his 38,388th point with a 14 foot fade away jumper with only seconds left on the clock for the third quarter against the OKC Thunder. After this happened they stopped the game as they had a ceremony for this great achievement. Kareem Abdul Jabbar was there to pass the torch from basketball legend to basketball legend. This day and record will go down in basketball history and it will stay there for a while. The closest player still playing right now to LeBron is Carmelo Anthony with 28,000 points. But his career is coming to an end with him being a free agent and not playing. Next in line is Kevin Durant with 26,000. That’s still 12,000 points with LeBron still playing and adding on to his unbelievable record. Durant averages about 1,800 points per season, So if LeBron were to stop playing right now, even though it looks like he has 5 or so more seasons in him, Durant would need at least 7 more seasons. He is currently on his 15th season in the NBA. I don’t know how much longer he will be in the NBA. So, I fell like this record will be untouched for over a decade. It took 35 years for Kareem’s record to be broken, maybe it will take another 35. But all in all, It takes a one in billion player to have his skill, longevity, and consistence to get that many points. But the question is, is he the GOAT?
