Starting the 2023 school year phones are banned! At Penns Valley High School phones are now not allowed to be present on you EXCEPT for lunch, only students grade 9 to grade 12. Grade 7th and 8th still have to keep their phones in the locker from 8:07 to 3:15. How will the students react? A lot of students obviously are against this new rule, and still wish to have their phones with them throughout the day. Only students with medical purpose or other needs has an exception. High school students at PV were allowed to have their phones present on them in previous years but were not allowed to be on them unless instructed to be. Now they must stay in your locker all day, except you are allowed to take them to lunch. There are pros and cons to this address. The pros are now students will be able to be more engaged in class. The students now can not get distracted by just looking at their phones and lose focus on what is going on. The cons can be if parents need to be in contact with their child immediately they can’t. If there is an emergency students can’t rely on their phones to call 911. All students are most likely to be with an adult everywhere they are so they can contact anyone they need, whenever they need. A current student at Penns Valley, Grace Wolfe says, “I don’t like it because even though the school says they will contact us or our parents in an emergency I still don’t feel safe without it. Like if I have a change of plans for a ride home I have to ask my parents or if I forget something I have to ask them to bring it to me. I think we should be able to always have them with us.” View this link for more details. https://www.smore.com/hcp46
