The regular season of the NFL has just concluded with week 18, and playoffs are under way. To start, the Seahawks secured the #1 seed in the NFC and the Broncos earned the #1 seed in the AFC respectively. With the two #1 seeds having a bye, the first round of playoffs in the AFC is the following: The #5 Texans will play away against the #4 Steelers, the #6 Bills will play away against the #3 Jaguars, then the #7 Chargers will play away against the #2 Patriots. The first round playoff picture for the NFC is the following: The #5 Rams will play away against the #4 Panthers, the #6 49ers will play away against the #3 Eagles, then the #7 Packers will play away against their very own division rivals, the Bears. Current Superbowl favorties include the Seahawks, Rams, and the Broncos. However, with the complete unpredictability of this season, its not out of the question that any of these playoff teams could make a superbowl run or even appearance. In fact, the unpredictable nature has been one of the biggest highlights of this NFL season with preseason underdogs like the Seahawks and Patriots being dominant and the on the flipside, teams that were expected to be powerhouses, such as the Chiefs and Ravens have been incredibly disappointing, with neither team making the playoffs. But back to the actual playoff contenders, a notable tidbit of information is that the Panthers secured their spot in the playoffs by winning the NFC South despite them having a losing record. What makes this post season so exciting is the aformentioned unpredictability of it. Without any clear cut winners, every game possesses a level of excitement that some in the past have not had. At the end of the day, who knows whats going to happen with this postseason. The favorites to win it may in fact win it. Or not. Regardless, I think it is safe to say that the phrase, “Any given Sunday” exists for a reason.
