At long last, the first semester of the school year is complete. Only a whole other semester to go! While it may seem trivial to know how to make it through the second one since… You already finished a whole one, I promise you the second one is and always will be so much harder. So let me give you some advice on how to survive the second semester of the school year.
You might think that both semesters have equal difficulty, but that is very far from the truth. First of all, in the first semester, you get both Thanksgiving and Christmas break to keep you afloat. Essentially, three weeks off from school. Want to know the break you get in the second semester? A four-day weekend for Easter. Safe to say, you have a couple more days of freedom and relaxation thanks to breaks in the first semester. After that, the burnout in the second semester is just a whole lot worse. In the first semester, you feel motivated to start your school year on the right foot, and you’re ready to make your academic mark on the school. By the second semester, you’ve been there, done that. The lack of motivation in the second semester hits you like a truck, trust me.
Now that you see why the second semester is a whole lot worse, here is how you can survive.
- Keep doing your work. It is going to be annoying sometimes, and at points you’re not going to want to do it. But you have to do it. Keep the second-semester grades as high as they were in the first semester.
- Don’t give up on everything. Without the promise of long breaks from school in the second semester, it can be easy to fall into the pattern of Monday arriving and you just waiting for the weekend again, and again, and again. Don’t do that. At the end of the day, you’re only in school once; at least try to enjoy the time you have left.
- There is a light at the end of the tunnel. While it may be far away right now. When the second semester comes to an end, the longest break of all follows suit. Summer vacation. The grind of the second semester can be arduous, but take moments to look at the bigger picture. Once it is all said and done, you’ll be free for a couple of months.
Those are my tips to survive the second half of the school year. I hope you can put them to good use.
